Artist , Jovann Armstrong is a transplant to Baton Rouge. Born into a military family she spent her formative years moving from base to base. Her interest in art came in her rebellious high school years shortly after her father passed away. Living at the time, in a very small rural community in upstate New York, it was a way to express herself and gave her a creative outlet. Marriage and children soon followed which put her ambitions of an art career on hold. Finally settling in Baton Rouge 18 years ago, the kids grown, she found the inspiration and courage to pick up where she had left off so many years ago. Without any formal training she found herself traveling to workshops to study with some pretty fabulous artists soaking up all they had to offer. With a quiet confidence , an intuitive style, and hundreds of practice canvases piling up she was given the opportunity to show her work at Rue Cou Cou Gallery in Mid City. During those years she won awards, graced a cover of Country Roads and had a spread in the Arts and Art galleries magazine. She successfully showed and sold many works of art during her stay there until they closed in 2016. Since the closing she has been taking time to experiment with different mediums and techniques all the while keeping her signature expressive brushwork. The result is her new work is evolving into something reminiscent of impressionism with a contemporary flare. Her love of nature, travel, and learning keep her work fresh and exciting.
